Insulation for Reducing Electricity Costs in Pre-Heat Ovens

Detail

Problems and Causes

A Pre-Heat Oven with an external surface area of approximately 50 square meters, operating 24 hours per day for 30 days per month, created heat radiation problems affecting nearby workers, increasing room temperature, and causing unnecessary electricity consumption through heat loss. Although the oven was internally insulated, the internal temperature exceeding 200 degrees Celsius resulted in heat conduction to the external surface. During summer, workers near the oven experienced fatigue from heat stress.

Improvement Methods

Since the oven operators and maintenance department did not want traditional thermal insulation due to operational and maintenance inconvenience, NTI’s energy specialists recommended ZAVE® removable thermal insulation with a thickness of 25mm and density of 160 kg/m³, having a thermal conductivity value of 0.06 W/m⋅K (watts per meter per kelvin) at 200 degrees Celsius. This insulation can be installed directly on the oven’s external surface without requiring drilling or welding to the oven structure. It is designed with modular sections for easy removal, particularly in frequently inspected areas, allowing quick tool-free access.

Improvement Results

Comparison Table: Average Oven Surface Temperature (Celsius): Annual Heat Loss (kW): Annual Electricity Cost (Baht):
Before ZAVE® Insulation: 88.1 227,484 878,088.00
After ZAVE® Insulation: 42.0 27,144 104,775.00
Reduction: 46.1 200,340 773,313.00
